As the Mitigation Specialist, I examine and develop evidence for presentation in the penalty phase of capital litigation. I maintain a network of resources and interface with experts and provide consultation services on cases in all phases of capital litigation. I have over 20 years of experience as an investigator, paralegal and court reporter. I have investigated hundreds of cases all over the State of Florida and consulted on cases nationally. Since 1995, I have focused solely on capital litigation. I have been appointed both in federal and state courts.
I have attended numerous CLE approved training seminars for capital litigation sponsored by the American Bar Association, State Bar associations, State and Federal Public Defenders and other professional defense associations. I have facilitated and instructed in training seminars for capital litigation for State and local Public Defender Offices and was the Pioneer of the Social Services Division of the Hillsborough County Public Defender’s Office and currently I am a consultant with the Forensic Justice Project in Washington, D.C. I have been a speaker for the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (FACDL), Board of Directors of Floridians Against the Death Penalty and a Director of Florida Capital Resource Center a non for Profit Organization that advocates for an Effective Capital Defense. I was retained and participated in the “trial of the Century” State vs. Casey Anthony as the Mitigation Specialist. I was involved as the Investigator in the “24th Exoneration” of Florida Death Row Inmate Seth Penalver.
